Ziggy Pop: New bassist to join Smashing Pumpkins ‘world tour’ this year The Smashing Pumpkins official website was updated today to include a press release confirming Nicole Fiorentino as the band’s new bassist and featuring a lovely photo of her with Billy Corgan, courtesy Kristin Burns. It seems Fiorentino has been busy with her own social networking sites, updating her Twitter account for the first time in many months and there’s plenty of activity over at her Facebook page too. Also of note: the press release mentions that Nicole will be joining the “world tour later this year” which includes the previously-known Japanese dates in August. Wonder when the other dates will begin to surface… we’re less than three months away!
Ziggy Pop: Fercak-Corgan book titled, to see French release on Sept. 15 11:53 am // Wednesday, May 12, 2010 Chants Magnetiques is the title of the forthcoming book containing one story each by French writer Claire Fercak and American poet-rocker Billy Corgan. It will be published in France by Leo Scheer, with a street date of September 15. Fercak’s story revolves around the mythological character Echo, while Corgan’s (as previously reported) focuses on Medea. Corgan’s portion will appear in a translation by Nathalie Bru. обещанная книга выходит 15 сентября

Ziggy Pop: Billy Corgan at MusicRadar.com: “This is the best lineup the band’s had since the original four” 11:46 am // Monday, May 24, 2010 Joe Bosso of MusicRadar.com recently conducted a lengthy podcast interview (and 8-page transcript) with Billy Corgan on the future of the Smashing Pumpkins, the recent hiring of Nicole Fiorentino on bass, what he’s looking for in a possible keyboardist and loads more. Plenty of chat for you gearheads too. The second part of the interview is still forthcoming, but this first whopping 20 minutes of chat reveals Corgan’s positive feelings about the current line-up: [Fiorentino]‘s a lovely, easy person to get along with, and I really, really am exited about this lineup of the band. I think this is the best lineup the band’s had since the original four, and I think we’re really going to put something together. I feel really positive. And on the forward progress of the songs in the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope catalog: Well, I finished eight. [laughs] And I’m preparing what will be the next four. I’m looking to when we’ll be recording again. We have some touring coming up, so I’m not really sure. But the next four are ready to go. I’m really enjoying the process; it’s really pushed me to approach my work in a different way, and I think that’s the best thing for me. There’s a lot to digest in this interview, and I’m sure we’ll be posting more thoughts as we get a chance to reflect. Ziggy Pop: "I'm not sure I'd necessarily want to hire somebody on keyboards full-time. I'm actually really enjoying playing as a straight four-piece again and asking the guitarists to carry a lot of that emotional weight. So, for the time being, we'll be a four-piece. "But if I could find that Rick Wakemanesque or Jon Lord-type person, I would love to have somebody of that caliber. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't play that style…You just don't see much of that anymore, and I think that could be really adaptable to what the Pumpkins are doing now." хорошее интервью

Ziggy Pop: Bill(y) Corgan interviewed (again) 12:53 pm // Tuesday, May 25, 2010 Editor-in-chief Bill Palmer of the online-only publication Beatweek Magazine (formerly iProng) has led Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan through a largely pro forma interview. From it we learn that Corgan considers the record label he’s starting with producer Kerry Brown to be “still a question mark” and that Corgan “still [has] plans for” his maintenance-undergoing website EverythingFromHereToThere.com. Palmer does ask one hard-hitting question toward the end: [Bill Palmer:] I’ve been wanting to ask you this for awhile: Most people named William who go by “Billy” in childhood (myself included) have ended up switching to “Bill” at some point in adulthood. What made you stick with “Billy”? [Corgan:] My real name is William. Andy: Currently I’m working on finishing songs 7 and 8, and I would say of all the songs I’ve worked on so far that these two are the ones I’m most excited by. Sounds like the best of old school SP set into the future. Интригует. I am in talks with the Pumpkins old label EMI to release a lot of unreleased materials Радует, что хоть что-то происходит, но стадию переговоров, по-моему, пора бы пройти уже.

А потом-бэмс-и 40 песен сразу. Ну и конечно сразу тур в поддержку этой красоты. Убило бы всех). нынешнее же выдавливание.. нет, у меня как-то с трудом получается ждать.. ) по 4 трека да с такими перерывами-это всё-таки издевательство.
