Ziggy Pop: Pretty one to follow “Freak” August 23, 2010 Billy Corgan got news this afternoon that the sixth song from Teargarden by Kaleidyscope will be released in mid-September, which would be over two months after the release of the album’s fifth song, “Freak.” Corgan describes the new song as “a pretty one,” and “one of [his] faves ever.” íîâàÿ ïåñíÿ âûéäåò â ñåðåäèíå ñåíòÿáðÿ

Andy: Now back in Los Angeles after the Smashing Pumpkins’ jaunt through Asia, Billy Corgan sat down for the camera with producer and friend Kerry Brown and posted a nearly 20-minute video interview to Facebook this evening. He discusses his excitement about this weekend’s massive Sunset Strip music festival, the chemistry of the current band line-up, and takes some questions from fans on Twitter. Check out the full video for more, but here are a few highlights: # The band is now finishing up the artwork for the second EP and fully intend to get it out by the end of this year. Billy realizes the project release cycle has been difficult to stick to, but wants to do the EPs the right way and put out a great product. He’s very complimentary of designer Noel Waggener and mentions their plans to mix it up for each EP in terms of format, release, and packaging. # After dusting off several of his vintage guitars for the recent Matthew Leone benefit concert at the Metro, Billy has been thinking of using them again more frequently. Jeff is lobbying in support of this measure. We are too. (YESSSSS!) # News on The Chicago Kid Project: it’s now curated by Matt Walker who has discovered approximately 72 songs from era. They’re currently trying to go through and curate all the live, studio, and video media that exists and hopefully put together something by next year. Billy mentions Christmas. He also thoughtfully weighs in on the analog / digital debate and the work ethic he’s followed throughout his career. Definitely some interest insight, so check out the full video for more! http://blog.hipstersunited.com/2010/08/23/billy-corgan-sits-down-for-lengthy-facebook-interview/ Videos Posted by The Smashing Pumpkins: Aug 23, 2010 2:47pm | Facebook Highlights: - EP 2's artwork has been signed off on and he's hoping for the physical release to occur by the end of the year. -Matt Walker is now in charge of getting the Chicago songs (now called the "Chicago Kid" project) sorted out and into some kind of releasable form. Apparently there are 72 songs from that era that they're choosing from. They're wanting to have a DVD/box set kind of thing out by the end of next year. -Billy wants to put out a Gish reissue or box set for the 20th Anniversary of it next year. He says he's gotten the rights for the material, but that he wants EMI to participate in it somehow to help it get out. He wants fans to somehow get it across to them that there's enough interest in the idea to make it worth their while to help Billy put it out. He suggested that without help, he wouldn't be able to put it out on his own until he's 50. -Billy is tossing around the idea of touring on his own, playing small acoustic shows where he pretty much plays whatever he wants from his entire catalog. He specifically mentioned playing Zwan and TFE songs in addition to SP songs. But he says SP are so in demand these days that finding the time to do such a tour is problematic. http://forums.netphoria.org/smashing-pumpkins-billy-corgan-discussion/171152-really-good-billy-interview.html

Ziggy Pop: Pumpkins’ “Fellowship” joins soundtrack for TV’s “Vampire Diaries” “The Fellowship,” a new song from the Smashing Pumpkins, will appear on a soundtrack album being issued on October 12 for “The Vampire Diaries,” a television program returning in the fall for its second season on the CW network. A listing on Amazon.com also implies that music from the track could be used in upcoming episodes: The ORIGINAL TELEVISION SOUNDTRACK: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES features exclusive fan favorites from Season One + new tracks that will be featured in Season Two. Pumpkins songwriter Billy Corgan has performed “The Fellowship” in concert before, specifically when he toured southern California in 2009 as part of Spirits in the Sky.

Ziggy Pop: Corgan remakes Kinks’ “Destroyer” with Ray Davies For a forthcoming album on which he re-records many of his great Kinks hits, Ray Davies has worked with Bruce Springsteen, Black Francis, Bon Jovi, Spoon, Alex Chilton, and others. A blog post written by Kerry Brown last night suggests that Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan is also taking part: Billy was in this week to record a track for Ray Davies the two of them are collaborating on a remake of Destroyer: Mr. Mark Tulin from The Electric Prunes played bass and Kevin Dippold engineered the track. “Destroyer” — itself a bit of a remake, as it incorporates the riff from the Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night,” which Zwan covered several times on its April 2002 tour of the Midwest — was a U.S. hit for the Kinks in 1981.

Ziggy Pop: The Smashing Pumpkins are in Mexico City to resume their world tour tonight at the Auditorio Nacional, and Gustavo Turner of urban publication L.A. Weekly has just published an interview done with Billy Corgan prior to his departure for the D.F. The interview is respectful, substantive, and runs to five web pages, but seems unlikely to make ‘news’ unless Perez Hilton takes exception to Corgan’s sympathetic words for “brilliant and talented” pop singer Christina Aguilera. Here is an excerpt in which Corgan analyzes the current “moment” for him and his band: Right now I’m in a very unique position because I’m standing right at this kind of crossroads where I’ve done the impossible. I’ve managed to put a band onstage that people are accepting, when you’re not supposed to be able to do that. People are actually enjoying the shows, even more so than two years ago. I’m having new success when I’m not supposed to be having new success. So, we’re right at this sort of beautiful moment when it’s like, “There’s still energy here, what’s going on, curiosity, media, fans, concerts,” and it’s sort of a beautiful honeymoon moment — that won’t last. And I’ve already told the band, internally, “This is about a year.” A year from now the difference will be, “Do we stand on our own in this moment with the new music that I’m going to write?” It’s a nice balance right now of honoring the past, honoring the present, and indications of a bright future. But ultimately the clock is ticking on that and I feel we got about a year. Basically, in the next year I need to prove that I have a whole ‘nother — something to say. An “expanded, uncut version” of this interview is now available: http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/interviews/billy-corgan-expanded-intervie/

Ziggy Pop: UK retailers list 2nd 'Teargarden' EP, November release date THE SOLSTICE BARE is the second chapter in the Smashing Pumpkins long-awaited 44-song concept album (After the release of TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE VOL. 1 – RSV006 in May 2010). Set includes a 12' Vinyl Picture EP & a deluxe CD in mock gatefold sleeve all with beautifully screen printed artwork by NOEL WAGGENER of SubCulture Press. The page says there are five new tracks (including Freak) but does not list them. As with first EP Songs for a Sailor, the production run is limited to 10.000 worldwide. What Records gives a release date of November 11, but one other retailer's listing says November 22. http://www.whatrecords.co.uk/items/56651.htm http://www.spincds.com/product.asp?id=9025799

Ziggy Pop: Twenty Minutes with Billy Corgan Billy Corgan: “Right now I’d say we’re the beneficiaries of surprising people… maybe because their expectations are so low?” http://www.independent.com/news/2010/sep/03/twenty-minutes-billy-corgan/

Ziggy Pop: Yet Another Continent It was announced Wednesday that the Smashing Pumpkins will be heading to Australia for a string of five shows spread across across the country in a week, starting off in Perth on October 12th and finishing off in Brisbane on October 17th. A 24 hour pre-sale available to “Frontier Touring Company Members” begins at noon AEST (trust you Aussies know what/when that means) on September 14th, with the general on-sale kicking off on September 16th at 9am (local time in each city, it seems). The venues are all in the 2,000-2,500 capacity range. Take notice that the show at the The Tivoli in Brisbane is listed as being an 18+ event while the rest are all ages. Europe, where the 21st century Pumpkins debuted in 2007, is no doubt wondering when its turn will arrive in this slowly developing world tour.

Andy: My memory of a chat with Billy before the Sacramento show here is what Billy and I talked about that i can recall I asked Billy what speed teargarden theme was suppose to be played at.. and he changed the subject to asking if anyone had heard the alt version Teargarden Theme that was suppose to be on the 7" with the lucky 100 gold obelisk . Since no one has seem to reportedly gotten one of the 100 by my report to him (and if there have been ones i hadn't heard anything about it.) Billy picked up his Blackberry and sent out an email right then and there to find out what happen. EMI had done some research costing some 3 million dollars and they found out that SP has a strong core base and that the casual fan has a positive perception of Smashing Pumpkins. He mention that the Gish box set really looked like a go. EMI had done a lot of market research and saw that doing something with Gish would make good sales. SP gave them what they would require to be an expectable deal before the 7 EMI people left. But when it came back it was so far off that Billy said that his lawyer (who happens to be a she) laughed at them and they just said screw it. And this meeting happen like a year ago, Billy was reserved about putting out the box on his own because if the Gish box didn't sell then that could screw it for future projects He also mention again how the music companies are looking for a new model to do business for the past 10 years with the introduction of the internet, and he felt that things are still in a change. But the thing that hasn't changed is that the bands are still being treated by the record companies, with the attitude of you need us, we don't need you. Which is completely wrong. seven years after Billy's Warner Bro contract is expired Billy will retain all the rights to the songs from Zwan, his solo album and Zeitgeist. He owns the rights to everything Gish and pre. along with some 28 shows that were video taped (which if i recall right was before Gish came out) Billy mention that their are pretty much instrumentals of every song post Gish that he would like to put out sometime. He cancel the archive project because of the lack of support of the core fans. He mention a number of 300k would needed to be put into the project (that number could of just been a number), but he can't just hope that it works out without fan support. The fans need to help put the money out there first to get it going. But all the talk of "well what if it sucks?" is really what killed it He also said he would love to go to China, but has never been made an offer. and the best part was at one point i asked about the change of his twitter icon to the 2 horses, and he kind of laughed and said "Monte you need to spend more time with your beautiful wife" i also joked with him about how my supportive wife was ok with us going to santa barbara. I had told her lets go on a romantic get away to Santa Barbara on Labor Day weekend, but do u mind if we see an SP concert, they just happen to be there MonteLDS http://montelds.blogspot.com/2010/09/my-memory-of-chat-with-billy-before.html
