Andy: Гуд ньюс, евриуан! Джимми начинает новый музыкальный проект совместно с Майком Рейна из группы The Jackfields. Названия у проекта пока нет. Готово порядка 12-15 песен. В январе они собираются в студию, а в марте планируют уже издать новый материал. I’m actually doing a new band that doesn’t really have a name yet. I’ve been working with this singer-songwriter from D.C. named Mike Reina [ed. pictured at right]. And, um, we’ve written about probably twelve to fifteen new songs, we’re probably going to go into the studio sometime in January and release some new material sometime in March. Haven’t really thought of a name for the band yet and don’t really want to let too many cats out of the bag at this point. I think for me it’s like, trying to sustain something that doesn’t really have a foothold yet gets really tedious. For me, I felt like I needed to be more than a drummer. I didn’t feel like I had enough ownership. It’s better sometimes to say ‘It’s time to do my own thing. I felt like there was stuff inside of me that I needed to, as an individual, as a father, as a husband, and as a musician that I needed to kind of explore my inner studio space a little bit more. And I didn’t think that being a drummer was what I needed to do at that particular point. Just if anyone has any questions…I am still friends with Billy. We still love each other. And more power to the Pumpkins, I think he deserves to go on with the name and the guy’s a great songwriter and he’ll go on to make a great record. So, let’s give it up for the man! Andy: Выдержки из свежего интервью Джимми: How he developed his “signature”: I really try to concentrate on being myself when I play. I know that sounds simple, but I think it takes years of emulating your heroes and practicing to finally arrive at the required amount of facility to just “be yourself” on an instrument. I think that’s where the hooks come in. When you can be yourself, only you can play like you. Things start to sound like a musical version of your personality. How important is it for a drummer to understand harmony and chord structure: Knowledge of harmony and melody is key if you want your drum parts to “sing the song.” I have always thought that you should be able to know what song you’re hearing just by listening to the drum part, and that’s what I strive for. The same goes for any instrument. What’s the greatest lesson he’s learned: Everything for me revolves around my instrument. It’s been with me longer than anything else in my life. My ability to be a good father, husband, friend, composer, teacher, kite flyer, gardener, pet owner is reflected in my relationship with the drums.
